Thai Massage
Thai massage is performed on the floor fully clothed which allows for ease of specific movements to be carried out. Using a combination of pressure with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows & feet and additional stretching movements these have a very releasing affect on the clients body in the same way as Yoga postures. These movements are usually repeated a number of times in varying levels of pressure or action to release energy blocks and tension in the body. The massage is done in a calm, methodical way which induces a meditative quality to the treatment and covers the whole body with the recipient lying on the back, side, front and sitting positions.
Rather than the Western view of massage it is more of a bodywork practice similar to Shiatsu, Rolfing or Alexander technique. Throughout the body are energy lines, known within Thai medicine as Sen lines or channels which support the flow of energy on a physical, emotional and mental level. The main 10 Sen lines are focused on in the practice via the pressure and stretches which remove blockages and balances the whole system leaving the recipient energized yet relaxed and calm, it is a treatment both for the receiver and the giver. As it originally developed from Buddhism it is based on the practice of ‘Metta’ which is the desire to make others happy and to show loving kindness.
